Sheriff’s investigators are looking for an identified suspect in a shooting that occurred in San Juan Bautista on Friday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office responded to a report of multiple shots fired at about 8:35 p.m. Friday at Muckelemi Street in San Juan Bautista, according to a statement from the office. There was one victim of a single gunshot wound whom family members transported to a south Bay Area hospital for treatment before he was released.

Detective Sgt. Tony Lamonica with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case and noted how the incident began when a car with four or five people inside pulled up to the victim.

Two of those with suspected involvement got out of the car and shot the man, whose injuries were not life threatening. Lamonica said he cannot say where the man was shot until the investigation is done.

Lamonica noted how the passenger did the shooting, but it is unclear at this point what motive they may have had in the attack.

The group fled the scene immediately after firing multiple shots and drove toward Highway 156, Lamonica said.

Investigators identified one of the multiple suspects, 26-year-old Gonzalo Ramirez, Jr., through witness statements at the scene.

Lamonica said there were at least five witnesses in total to the shootings.

Ramirez is described as a Hispanic male, clean shaven with short hair, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 220 pounds. He was last seen driving from the scene in a dark 1998 Honda with a license plate 5RGV111. The car has tinted windows and blacked-out tail lights.

Anyone with information should call Lamonica at the sheriff’s office at (831) 636-4080.
