Hollister – Police have no leads on who vandalized over 30 cars throughout Hollister and parts of San Benito County Saturday night. The vehicles’ windows were shot out with BB or pellet guns.
Hollister police logged at least 34 incidences between Saturday night and Sunday morning, said police spokesman George Ramirez.
“It was random, all over town. There’s no motive or suspect, it could be anything,” Ramirez said. “We have nothing to investigate. These are all random acts with no evidence and no investigative leads.”
One of the victims, Hollister resident Joe Fowles, is taking his plight to the city manager in an attempt to bring the vandals to justice.
The retired San Jose fire captain, who conceded the vandalism is a low priority for police, hopes to convince government officials that increased police protection of residents and their property is needed.
He said both his vehicles – two Ford Explorers parked in front of his home on Cushman Street – were egged and damaged with BB pellets and will cost him at least $635 to repair.
“I want to get something changed, I know we need more police,” Fowles said. “Damnit it, you can’t park your own car in front of your house and not have it vandalized. What good is the police department and city government doing for me and the rest of the community?”
Anyone with information about the vandalism should contact the Hollister Police Department at (831) 636-4330.
