There have been about 21 reports of stolen vehicle burglaries
throughout various locations in the city since June 1, according to
police. It is up from 2008 during the same time, when there were
three reports of vehicle burglaries.
The Hollister Police Department has alerted residents to use caution when leaving vehicles parked during the evening hours. Citizens are encouraged to take measures to minimize the chance of having their property stolen from the parked vehicles, according to a press release from the department.
Prompting the statement have been about 21 reports of stolen vehicle burglaries throughout various locations in the city since June 1, according to police. It is up from 2008 during the same time, when there were three reports of vehicle burglaries.
The HPD advises citizens to: Always lock your car and take the keys with you; close the windows completely; park in well-lit areas; and place any valuables out of sight.
The statement notes that the majority of vehicle burglaries are occurring in nighttime hours. Often used is the “smash and grab” technique, which entails the assailants breaking the window and stealing what is easily accessible, according to police.
