Hollister resident Vernon J. Pacheco died suddenly at his home Tuesday, Nov. 18. He was 78.

He was a lifelong resident of Hollister. He attended local schools and was a graduate of San Benito High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was an avid San Benito High School football fan along with the San Francisco 49ers. He was also a World War II history buff and loved making model airplanes.

He worked for Tipon Motors for close to 20 years in the parts department and later worked for several years with Semi-Fab in Hollister.

He is survived by his nieces Pat Lomanto of Hollister, Verna (Phil) Globke of Utah, Linda (Gary) Churchill of Hollister, and Barbara (Mike) Sotcan of Sacramento; nephews Jim (Barbara) Pacheco of Hollister, and William (Cathy) James of Los Angeles; sister-in-law Lena Pacheco of Hollister; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Pacheco and sister Maybelle Klauer and Eunice James.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at the Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, 1200 Hillcrest Road in Hollister, on Friday, Nov. 21 at 11:30 a.m. Private inurnment will follow in his family plot at the cemetery.
