There has been no change in the status of a Fresno woman seriously injured in a head-on collision at Highway 156 and Lucy Brown Avenue Wednesday, according to police.

Mary Ann Vuicich, 42, is considered “guarded but critical” by Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital doctors, with major head trauma, facial fractures and possible paralysis to her left side, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Terry Mayes.

Duicich underwent surgery Wednesday evening after Castroville resident Diana Lynn Jones, who admitted to police she used heroin before and while driving, allowed her Windstar van to drift into Duicich’s lane around 8:30 a.m., Mayes said.

Jones, who was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital with broken ribs and a broken left leg, had a fresh injection site on her arm from the heroine and officers also found methamphetamine in her purse, Mayes said.

She was arrested with felony driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
