Hollister – Hollister Viking teams hosted a variety of opponents on Saturday at Andy Hardin Stadium, and met with a variety of results as well. Three of the five teams won, two by shutout, while two others were soundly defeated by their opponents. In Saturday’s action:

Junior Pee Wee Hollister Vikings 26 Coastside Pirates 0

The Junior Pee Wee Viking defense dominated its opponents to register a 26-0 shutout. Taking the opening kickoff, Hollister scored with three big plays. First, Tyler Fhurong hit Cody Cameron with a 17-yard pass. Then, Mikey Koroluk ran for 44 yards in two plays, and also ran in the extra point to make it 7-0. The defense kicked into gear as Cameron, Angel Pasillas and Junior Munguia made big tackles for Hollister. Late in the second quarter, Koroluk hit Cody Freitas for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Then, after JC Canes recovered a third-quarter fumble for Hollister, Chris Cook made a 20-yard touchdown run, making the score 20-0 Vikings.

Defensively, the Vikings never let up as they forced four turnovers throughout the game. Cameron recovered two fumbles, JC Canes recovered one, and Chris Cook intercepted a pass. Late in the fourth quarter, Koroluk put the icing on the cake with a 61 yard touchdown run.

Junior Midget Hollister Vikings 28 Coastside Raiders 6

The Junior Midget Vikings ran roughshod over the Coastside Raiders, scoring twice in the first 8 minutes to build up an insurmountable lead. Early in the game, Isaac Navarette made a 30-yard punt return, and then Julius Travis made an 11-yard run for Hollister’s first touchdown.

Tyler Pina made a two-point kick to give Hollister an 8-0 lead. Late in the first quarter, Tyler Decker threw to Navarette for a 40-yard touchdown, with another two-point kick following from Pina.

In the second quarter, Gregory Vasquez hit Jacob Martin for a 25-yard pass play and then Mark Neal ran the ball in for another Vikings’ score. Defensively, Justin Raine, Conner Stevens, Jonathan Huaracha and Ryan DiSalvo led the charge, allowing the Raiders virtually nothing offensively. The fourth and final touchdown was made by Travis on a 70-yard kickoff return at the start of the second half.

Pee Wee Palo Alto Knights 18 Hollister Vikings 6

Palo Alto’s offensive powerhouse jumped on the Vikings with two quick touchdowns to build up a 12-0 lead. However, Hollister’s defense took control and only allowed the Knights one more score for the rest of the game. The Vikings had four fumble recoveries, with Nate Garza grabbing two, and Robert Aceves and Conner Bernal one each. Mark Ponte, Rolie Ortiz, Zack Hicks, Dan Buzzetta, Gio Caro and Conner Bernal made several backfield tackles each. Zach Nelson made the Vikings’ lone touchdown late in the second quarter after a long drive.

Midget: Coastside Seahawks 36 Hollister Vikings 6

Coastside jumped on the Vikings early, wrapping up the game in the first quarter with a 24-point explosion. The Vikings had several good plays but found it difficult to score. Brandon Pina completed a number of passes to Ricky Rodriguez and Shaqueo Perry made several good runs, scoring the Vikings’ only touchdown late in the game.

Mighty Mite Hollister Vikings 12 Cambrian Valley Longhorns 0

In a game that featured strong defensive play the Hollister shut out Cambrian Valley. Austin Cascio recorded the first Vikings’ touchdown after Kyle Cameron converted a run to the 10-yard line. Cascio also scored late in the game. Tommy Ford, Justin Sanders, Nathan Fhurong and Dominic Barrios made great defensive plays for Hollister. Daniel Perez contributed an interception late in the third quarter.

The Tiny Mites took on the Santa Cruz Sea Dragons on Saturday. Jay Martinez made two big runs, one on the first play of the game for 30 yards. Andres Soto and BJ Quintana made runs to the end zone during the game. The offensive line of Allan Reyes, Dawson Garcia, Nathaniel Cardinalli, Nick Perez, Shane Ledesma, Bobby Vivian and Martinez made the blocks that sprung Hollister runners for good gains all day long. The Vikings also excelled on defense as Quintana, Soto and Ledesma made big tackles that kept the Sea Dragons from moving the ball very far.

The Vikings take on opponents from South San Jose on Saturday at Andy Hardin Stadium. Games begin at 9:30am.
