Hollister resident
Hollister resident Vince Marquez Sr. died Monday, March 24, 2003 in Salinas. He was 68.

Mr. Marquez was born in Roswell, N.M. In 1948 he moved to Morgan Hill, where he picked strawberries for several years on what is now Cochrane Road. After he married in 1959 he and his wife settled in Gilroy and raised five children. He drove trucks for 43 years, 29 for Highway Garage and 14 for McAbee Trucking. The family moved to Hollister in 1972.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Joey Marquez Chavez and Linda Chavez of Gilroy, Vince Jr. and Yani Marquez, Martha and Raul Arellano, Stephanie and Jose Garcia and Valerie Marquez, all of Visalia, and Miles Marquez of Hollister; his brothers and sisters, Lucy Marquez of Hollister, Bobby Marquez and Lupe and Jesse Martinez, all of San Jose, Paul and Mickey Marquez of Vallejo and Hope Marquez of Manteca; 17 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Petra Marquez; his sisters, Angie Martinez and Helen Marquez; and his granddaughter, Lorraine Chavez.

Visitation will begin Friday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St. in Gilroy. A vigil service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will begin Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, proceeding to St. Mary Church in Gilroy for a funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
