Virgilio “Virgil” Tabancay died suddenly at his Hollister home Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004. He was 58.

He came to San Benito County in 1998 from the Philippine Islands.

Mr. Tabancay was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Filipino American Community of San Benito County.

He worked in construction in Saudi Arabia for 19 years before coming to San Benito County to work as an assembler in the ordnance industry at Teledyne McCormick Selph.

He loved to be with his family, be in the outdoors fishing at San Luis Dam and driving to San Francisco and Pacifica to fish for salmon and stripped bass with his brother.

Mr. Tabancay enjoyed singing, working in his vegetable garden, playing cards and sharing his good sense of humor with others.

He is survived by his mother Luisa Tabancay of Hollister; wife Norma Tabancay of Hollister; children and their spouses Caesar and Rodella Tabancay, Cecil and Helen Tabancay and Cettina and Elmer Buduan, all of the Philippine Islands; grandchildren Angel Tabancay, Vince Tabancay, Shanell Buduan and April Buduan; brothers and sisters Angel and Dora Tabancay of Hollister, Concesa Tabancay of Florida, Juan and Relie Tabancay of Hollister, Jose and Luz Tabancay of Los Angeles, Silvestre and Josie Tabancay of Hollister, Delfin and Lourdes Tabancay of San Francisco and Amy and Jessie Dizon of Hollister; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Santiago Tabancay.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 7 at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m.

Friends are invited to a Mass at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Interment will be at Batac, Ilocos, Norte, Philippine Islands.
