Virginia B. Furtado

Virginia B. Furtado passed away peacefully at her Gilroy home on December 13, 2009. She was surrounded by her family as she lost her battle to Alzheimer’s. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Francis “Louie” Furtado.

Virgina moved to Gilroy in 1955 where she raised her 3 children and started their family business, The Furtado Dairy. Virginia loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends. Prior to her illness, Virgina was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, U.P.P.E.C, The Native Daughters, The Past Pocahontas, The Druids, and Our Lady of Fatima all of which she was proud to dedicate her time.

Virginia was a loving mother to Ron, Bobbie and Kenny Furtado. She was a devoted grandmother to Sharon Furtado, Shelley Canario, Kendra Silacci, Dina Ferrari, Danny Furtado, Katie Wurzel, Amy Neal, Cindy Sweigart and a dearest great-grandmother of 11. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Virginia will be missed by all.

A Vigil will be held on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Mary’s Church, 11 First St., Gilroy.
