I. Johnson passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on
Sunday, Feb, 27 at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Johnson was a native
of Bowersville, Ohio and has been a Hollister resident since
1975.
Virginia “Ginny” I. Johnson passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Feb, 27 at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Bowersville, Ohio and has been a Hollister resident since 1975.

Ginny, as she was affectionally known by her family and friends was employed as a book keeper for Muenzer’s Cyclery and Sports Center in Hollister for 26 years. In the early years of her marriage to John Johnson, whose career spanned 23 years with the U. S. Airforce, she and John were able to travel throughout the United States and England. It was when he retired from the military in 1975 that they moved to Hollister from Colorado. The outdoors took on new interest as they purchased a Cabin Cruiser which was berthed at Bethel Island to enjoy the California waterways as well as a R.V. to travel cross country to the east coast.

“Besides her love of traveling, our family always came first,” said her children. “She was a loving mother, grandmother, and was happy to be with her relatives.” Ginny loved animals, especially her dog, a miniature Schnauzer named “Misty.”

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hollister for many years.

Virginia was the daughter of the late Esta and Edna Haughey; sister of the late Richard and Neal Haughey. She is survived by her children and their spouses Bill Johnson and his wife Roberta “Pixie” Johnson of Grants Pass, Ore.; Karen Zanella and her husband Danny of Hollister, and Mike Johnson and his wife Penny of Virginia; her grandchildren Kevin and Dominic Zanella of Hollister; her brother-in-law Bob Johnson and his spouse Sheron of Hollister; sister-in-law Dorothy Haughey of Dayton, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and her former spouse John Johnson of West Virginia.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10am on Friday, March 4 at at the chapel of the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister.

Visitation will be held at the mortuary on Thursday from noon until 7pm as well as on Friday morning prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
