Starbucks has announced its San Juan Road location is among 600 shops closing this month as the company reverses its expansion during tough economic times.

The Seattle-based company will close the Hollister location and seven others in California as part of the broad, national curtailing of operations. Hollister’s west side shop opened next to Hollister Super in early 2007.

The other California locations closing are in San Diego, Rancho Mirage, Hemet, Riverside, Montclair, Victorville and Laguna Beach.

Starbucks’ shares have fallen steadily for two years after an explosion of growth, and 70 percent of the stores closing were opened since 2006. About 12,000 workers will be affected by the closures.
