Thanks to Mr. Shaddox, the financial debacle at City Hall continues. Mr. Shaddox, if you’re set to lay off 23 percent of taxpayers workers, as proposed by your RIF plan, because of financial straits, you don’t add to the city financial burden by hiring yet another consultant to do your job.

Such a decision speaks eloquently about Council’s and your eagerness to circumvent and unwillingness to deal with your proposal.

As demonstrated by his RIF plan, Shaddox has no compassion as he has no family or emotional ties to the community, his bosses or the city employees. Why do you think it’s so easy for him to ask for more taxes?

Shaddox was hired at a super sized salary of $130,000 per year, plus benefits and perks. One perk being a guaranteed 3-percent annual cost of living raise. If he were a leader with dignity and true compassion for the city, he would immediately decline his 3-percent raise and take a 50 percent salary reduction. His salary reduction would pay for a portion of the consultants hired to do his job.

Over the past decade, the salary gap between the lowest paid employee, department head, mid-management and city manager has widened to the point of ridiculous.

They city must bring its spending back into alignment with its revenues and the best way to start is by downsizing salaries, benefits and perks from the top down.

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom recently took a voluntary 15-percent salary reduction. When you LEAD by example as Newsom did – other highly paid city officials/department heads followed suit, immediately taking a 15-percent salary reduction. More city officials are coming forward every day taking a 15- percent salary reduction.

When the choice between cutting necessary city services and employees and voluntary salary reductions by people who make the most money in the city, the decision is a no-brainer, right Mr. Shaddox?
