Wilbert D. “Webb” Clayton passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital on July 31, 2004 at the age of 75 years.

A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Clayton resided in Hollister for the last 64 years. He was a graduate of San Benito High School in the class of 1946. “Webb” as he was affectionally known by all his friends had been employed by Tri Valley Cannery as a supervisor for 32 years. Mr. Clayton was a member of the SIRS; the UBE Lodge of Hollister, Bolado Park Golf Course and Bolado Park Mens Club; and was a former member of Local 890 International Brotherhood Of Teamsers of Salinas. Webb’s favorite past times were playing golf any time he could, fishing with his buddies Vince Yanez and Angelo Jaime, gardening in his yard, doing crossword puzzles “every single day” said his family, spending time watching sports on TV especially the 49ers and Giants; and most of all attending and watching his grandchildren play ball. He is survived by his wife Clara Simunovich Clayton, they would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary in December of this year. His first wife, Manuella T. Clayton, passed away in August 1984.

Other survivors are his children Darrell Clayton (spouse Kim); Gary Clayton (spouse Tami); Linda Lial (spouse Joe) all of Hollister; Step-children Julie Destefanis (husband Dino), Dennis Simunovich (Wife Judy), and Maria Ballesteros (husband John) all of Hollister. Grandchildren Shane, Tasha, and J.C. Clayton; Cole and Connor Clayton; Mitchell and Melanie Lial; Lyndie and Krista Destefanis; Dennis Simunovich Jr.; Dustin and Cameron Ballesteros. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and his dearest friends Hauro and Alison Sakamoto and their son Jason.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5 from 9 a.m. until noon at the chapel of the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Friends are invited to attend the funeral service which begins at noon.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Donations are preferred to San Benito Home Health Care or to the Breast Cancer Reserch Fund c/o Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
