S. Rowe, native of San Juan Bautista, and former longtime
resident of San Benito County passed away at Willow Glen
Convalescent Hospital in San Jose on September 16 at the age of 78
years.
William “Bill” S. Rowe, native of San Juan Bautista, and former longtime resident of San Benito County passed away at Willow Glen Convalescent Hospital in San Jose on September 16 at the age of 78 years.

A graduate of San Benito High School, Mr. Rowe also served with the US Navy during WWII. He is a life-time member of Leslie L. Garrett Post No. 6359, V. F. W. of San Juan Bautista. The last l5 years of his working career were spent as a Cold Storage Operator providing refrigeration for agricultural products. His hobbies included building radio controlled airplanes, flying them competitively and selling them afterward. He enjoyed the fishing boat he berthed at Moss Landing –fishing for salmon in Monterey Bay and along the central coast. He was also interested in attending the drag racing events at Fremont and Blythe.

He was the son of the late George and Bertha Rowe; brother of George Rowe Jr. of San Juan Bautista; Roy Rowe of San Jose; Joyce Elane of San Jose; and the late Melvin and Louis Rowe; father of William Rowe Jr. of Montana and Ron Rowe of Washington. He is also survived by several grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.

Private cremation has been arranged through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday September 22 at 2pm at the Veterans Section of San Juan District Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Hollister Post No. 9242 and Leslie L., Garrett Post 6359 Veterans Of Foreign Wars.
