Hollister police had not submitted a report to the district attorney’s office in a July 4 fireworks case as of Friday, but expect to do so at some point this week, a department official has confirmed.
Police arrested Shawn G. Bourdet after the July 4 illegal fireworks incident that resulted in injuries to five children, one declared in critical condition shortly after fireworks flew horizontally into a crowd. Authorities set bail at $65,000, while Bourdet posted bond for release.
The district attorney has not officially charged Bourdet in the case because the agency had not received the police report as of Friday, office personnel confirmed. Hollister police Capt. Carlos Reynoso said with Bourdet bailing out, he expected that investigators would send a report to prosecutors at some point this coming week.
Police have alleged that a large mortar device had been set off on the street at a large block party on Brigantino Drive. Once lit, the launcher fell over, according to police in a statement released on the department’s Nixle page.
The fireworks flew into a crowd and injured the five children, with injuries including a broken leg and varying degrees of burns, according to police. One boy was flown to a Bay Area hospital with severe injuries, but is expected to recover.
Police reported that several others may have self-transported to the hospital to varying injuries.
