Hollister – A gang-related drive-by shooting Friday night sent a Hollister woman to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg and left police searching for three Hispanic males to arrest for attempted murder, according to police.

The 29-year-old Hollister woman was shot when three men fired multiple bullets from two guns into the front of her apartment in the 100 block of San Felipe Road around 10:45pm, said Hollister Police spokesman George Ramirez.

Ramirez said two known gang members who were in the residence at the time of the shooting had been

having an argument with the three suspects in a black Mazda in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

He said one witness told police one of the men went inside the residence and got a shotgun, and when he came back out the men in the Mazda quickly drove away.

A half an hour later, the men in the black Mazda returned and shot up the apartment, he said.

“Witnesses reported hearing the suspects yelling ‘Norte’ as they left,” Ramirez said.

Ramirez did not know what type of guns were used, how many bullets were fired or where in the house the people inside were at the time of the shooting. Bullet holes were found in the walls and the door of the apartment, Ramirez said. No other apartments in the complex were damaged, he said.

The woman was found lying on the living room floor when police arrived and was taken to Hazel Hakwins Hospital where she was treated for her injuries, he said. The bullet went through her leg and her injuries were not life threatening, Ramirez said.

She is not a gang member, Ramirez said.

Ramirez said he did not know if the two men inside the residence knew the suspects or not.

“There was a (verbal) exchange (before the shooting), but we don’t know if it was just a random exchange or something that had been going on for awhile,” he said.

Ramirez did not know if anyone else was inside the residence at the time of the shooting. He said the woman has children but he did know if they were present.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
