Romolo (Ray) Alcini born January 13,1915 in Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy. Imigrated to America at age 14 and lived, worked, and went to school in Michigan until 1949 when he moved to California. Preceded in death by his first wife Emma, and 5 brothers and sisters. Survived by his two sons Ray (Diana) and Rick and 3 grandchildren. He remarried in 1995 and is survived by wife Anne and three daughters, Judith (Bob Profeta), Wendy, and Aileene (Nick Boffa) and seven grandchildren. Ray was a decorated war hero who served his country in WW2 as a member of the elite OSS. His fluency in the Italian language made him a valuable asset to the U.S. Army and he participated in numerous successful missions throughout Europe during the war. After the war and settling in California, Ray became a successful business owner. He farmed orchards in Santa Clara Valley then started a rubbish disposal and landfill business, and ultimately ended up owning a sheet metal fabrication company. Ray enjoyed golf, playing the accordion and mandolin, bocce ball, and traveling and was accomplished in all. Those whose life he touched, whether family, friends, or business associates, all knew him as an honest, loving, generous person who possessed a wit and sense of humor that made us all laugh and enjoy every moment in his presence. Family and friends were the most important things in Ray’s life and he will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A life celebration event honoring Ray will take place Tuesday, August 21st at Leal Winery, 300 Maranatha Dr. in Hollister, CA at 1:00 PM. Bocce ball, food, music and wine in an outdoor olive grove, one of Ray’s favorite spots, is the perfect combination to celebrate the life of this very special man. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or your local Hospice association in care of the funeral home.
