Bedell, 36, had no arrests or convictions in San Benito County – as all of those situations were outside the area – but he did have several contacts with the sheriff’s office in recent years, Sheriff Curtis Hill noted Friday.
In 2003 here in Hollister, he made contact on a “field interrogation” with an officer as a pedestrian, but nothing came of it.
In 2006, he alleged that one of his brothers struck him and Bedell filed a citizen’s arrest report against him claiming misdemeanor battery, according to Hill.
And in 2008, Bedell was on record as reporting a vandalism incident at his family’s home, the sheriff said.
Besides a missing person’s report filed and soon thereafter closed by Bedell’s parents in January, though, he had little contact with local law enforcement. Hollister police spokesman Sgt. David Westrick said the agency had nothing on file related to Bedell.
Outside of the county, however, his first conviction occurred in June 2006 in Orange County. He pleaded guilty to resisting a peace officer and was sentenced to three years of probation, according to court records.
In October 2007, Bedell pleaded no contest to a charge of exhibiting a weapon other than a firearm at the Palo Alto Courthouse. He was sentenced to 20 days of weekend work and court probation. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office filed the charge in August 2007, though no other details were available immediately.
Most recently, in early February, in Reno, police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana, according to the Reno Gazette Journal, pointing out the police report noting how he fell over during sobriety tests and had drugs and a pipe with him. The newspaper also noted how he had a March 2 arraignment hearing for which he did not appear.
