San Benito County residents formed a long line outside the tax collector's office Monday morning,in 2012 on the last day payments were due.

Usually, the San Benito County Tax Collector’s Office is closed Fridays due to budget cutbacks. That won’t be the case this week, however, because a crucial deadline for payments falls on that day.
The tax collector’s office plans to be open until 5 p.m. Friday, a day it would normally close, because it is the deadline for the second and final installment of property tax payments from local residents. Since the April 10 deadline falls on a Friday, the office will be open, an official reported to supervisors Tuesday.
After the deadline, delinquent property owners would face a 10 percent penalty and an additional $17.50 fee.
