Evelyn White, 94, died in Gilroy, Sunday, January 6th, 2008. She was born November 15, 1913, to the late Lee and Carrie Smith, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She had 8 siblings, all of whom predeceased her. The family came to California when she was a young girl. She married George White in Carson City, Nevada, on May 26, 1934. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage at the time of his death in February, 2002.

Mrs. White is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Lenore & Steve Hailstone of Hollister, Elaine & Edward Maier of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Janice and Bud Bosworth of Lake Almanor, and Linda White and Rhett Schleeter of Gilroy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carrie De Martini (Scott) of McKinleyville, Betsy Clemente (Howard) of Redwood City, Willson Maier of Gilroy, Amanda (Donald) Blanton of Clovis, Melanie (Jeff) Nighbert of Clovis, and Mikelea Hailstone of Salinas, as well as great grandchildren Dorothy Clemente, Willson Maier, Stephanie, Nicholas, and Matthew Blanton, and Hunter and Taylor Sasso. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. White had many interests, among them quilting, needlework, and bridge. She and her husband were avid travelers, from Alaska to Mexico and across the United States. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and St. Anne’s Guild, Gilroy Historical Society, and the Oregon California Trails Association. She was the first Mother Advisor of the Gilroy Order of the Rainbow Girls, and leader of many of the activities and organizations that her daughters participated in throughout their youth in Gilroy.

Funeral Services are Thursday, January 10th, at 11:00a.m., at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Donations to Central Coast VNA Hospice, Alzheimer’s Association, or St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church would be appreciated.
