Stanley LeRoy Maynes passed away January 5, 2007. Stan was born to Richard John and Emma Drennan Maynes on March 26, 1924. He had two older sisters, Pauline (deceased) and Louise. Stan graduated from South High in Salt Lake City and went on to attend Utah State University until he moved to California to pursue further studies in engineering. He there enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Army Air Corp as a Navigator.
During his service he met Betty Jean Freeman in Denver, Colorado. They were married on December 18, 1945 and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. The newly-wed couple made their home in the San Francisco Bay Area and were blessed with a daughter and two sons. Stan was a great husband and dad and often took his family on camping and fishing trips, taught them different sports, and attended their activities whenever he could.
Stan founded his own engineering and fabricating business in Mountain View, CA, and later added an additional manufacturing facility in Hollister, CA. The firm specialized in factory automation. During these years he traveled to many parts of the world in connection with his business. Stan was also one of the founders of, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for San Benito Bank, headquartered in Hollister.
During his career years he also served in many different community responsibilities, including President of the Hollister Chamber of Commerce, President of the Hollister Rotary Club, and many years of service on the Hollister City Council, including service as Mayor. He was highly regarded by his employees and fellow citizens for his work ethic, generosity, and integrity.
At retirement, Stan and Betty purchased property in Oakley, Utah, where they raised llamas and enjoyed country life. While living in Oakley, Stan also served on the town planning commission for several years.
Stan was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an earnest student of the gospel. He spent many years teaching early-morning seminary and Gospel Doctrine.
While living in California, he was ordained a Patriarch under the hands of Elder David B. Haight. He was deeply humbled by this call and valued the trust placed in him.
Stan is survived by his wife, Betty Jean, daughter, Lynn Carol, sons Richard John (Nancy), and Steven Freeman (Karen), and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday morning, January 11, 2007, 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the Oakley First/Peoa Ward Building. Memorial Services will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at 3:00 P. M. in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City.
