Ruth M. Spencer died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the age of 87.

Spencer was born in Hollister where she attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, San Benito High School and Gavilan College. After Gavilan, she attended O‚Connor Hospital School of Nursing in San Jose.

She loved music, dancing, working in the garden and had an unconditional love for animals. Spencer was active in St. Joseph’s Church, YLI, local PTA’s and parent groups. Recently, she was awarded her 1,000-hour pin as a volunteer with the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary.

Spencer was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Spencer and brother Earl Perry. She is survived by her children, Bradley Spencer of Morgan Hill, Robert Spencer of San Jose, Susan Moore of Mountain View; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mountain View. Inurnment services will be conducted at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary in Mountain View.

Donations are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Activity Center, 2380 Enborg Lane, San Jose, CA 95128.
