Adra K. Keel died Wednesday morning at the age of 93 at the
Mabie Skilled Nursing facility.
Adra K. Keel died Wednesday morning at the age of 93 at the Mabie Skilled Nursing facility. A native of Walbash County, Ind., she had lived in San Juan Bautista for the past 20 years.
She was a member of the San Juan Bautista and Hollister Seniors. Adra loved knitting and quilting for herself and others along with her great love of the outdoors and fishing. She was an avid baseball fan, never missing a game either on TV or radio during the season and no matter who was playing. Don Larson of the New York Yankies met with her and talked about his perfect game in the World Series many years ago – the only perfect game to date that has ever been pitched in the World Series. He also autographed a baseball for her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Keel, who died in 1983 and her children, Donald E. Keel, who died in January of 2004, Margaret E. Keel, Martha Louise Stutsman and Paul L. Keel, Jr. and her brother Wilbur O. Stone.
She is survived by her daughter, D. Joann Cousins and husband, Jack, of San Juan Bautista; and her daughter-in-law, Gwen Keel of Lucedale, Miss.; her sister Helen L. Haupert of Walbash, Ind. and Nyla South of south Whitley, Ind; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday from 10am to 7pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 11am at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home followed by graveside services and burial at the San Juan District Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to Mabie Skilled Nursing Facility, San Juan Volunteer Fire Department or the AMR (American Medical Response) in San Juan Bautista.
