Alexander Vincent Armlin, 17, of Tres Pinos, CA, passed away on December 7, 2015. Sadly, his life was taken suddenly in a tragic car accident. He was born October 19, 1998 in Carmichael, CA, the son of Barb (Orth) Montag and Gary Armlin.
He attended St. Albans Country Day School of Roseville (preschool through first grade), St. John Vianney Catholic School in Rancho Cordova (second grade) and Sacred Heart Parish School in Hollister (third through eighth grade). Alex was currently a junior at Gilroy Early College Academy (GECA) and was employed at Paine’s Restaurant in Hollister.
He planned to complete college and was considering Montana State, to join his brother in Bozeman, MT. He then hoped to serve his country as an Army Ranger Special Operations Officer.
Alex was a true gentleman with twinkling eyes and a wonderful joyous smile. His mom describes Alex as “my rock” — steady and easy-going. His warmth and tenderness was evident among his family and friends, and to everyone who met him. Teachers and parents remember him as a wonderful, respectful student, who was “smart as a whip”, honest and kind-hearted. His classmates and co-workers truly loved and supported him as well.
Alex dearly loved animals, including but not limited to, the family cats (Marlena and Icee), the dogs (Balto and Stan), and his chicken (Gray Eagle). He also enjoyed horses, lizards, yellow-eyed penguins and even tarantulas.
When Alex was young and didn’t have a dog yet, he wanted one so very much he told his dad: “I want a dog — I don’t care if it’s old and I don’t care if it’s ugly, I just want a dog”. His passion for animals reveals his kind and compassionate heart. The day before the accident, Alex had just picked out a new puppy (Jax) with Barb and Rick. It was a day full of good memories for all of them.
Alex enjoyed playing computer games and making silly videos with his friends. He also enjoyed recreational shooting and had developed a passion for marksmanship.
As he entered high school, Alex’s love of 80’s rock music came to the forefront. He also had a passion for classic cars. After much time and research, he was able to locate and purchase his first choice classic car, a 1988 Camaro. This purchase was an example of Alex’s tenacity in pursuing and accomplishing his goals.
Alex is survived by his parents, Barb and Rick Montag of Tres Pinos, and Gary Armlin of Camarillo; his older brother, Spencer (currently a freshman at Montana State University); and his step-sisters, Amanda Montag (Tres Pinos) and Makeila Montag (California State University, Fresno). He also leaves his maternal grandmother, SueAnn Barber of Fresno, and grandparents, Don and Agnes Montag of Gilroy.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Vincent and Elizabeth Armlin, and his maternal grandfather, Donald N. Orth.
