Long-time Gilroyan, Anna Cortes, died on March 12, 2015.
She leaves behind her beloved family of Laura, Patty, Veronica, and Monica; daughter-in-law, Sammie, and sons-in-law, Joe Martucci and Scott Griggs. Grandchildren, Amber, Adam, Maia, Joanna, Patrick and Lassen and great-grandchild, Charleigh.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Salvador and only son, Sal.
She will be especially missed by her surviving siblings, Dolores, Mary, Sarah, Margaret, her brother, Dan and sister-in-law, Kayneta. Her many nieces and nephews and local friends will lament her passing.
Anna spent her entire life in Gilroy and was the second daughter of Remedios and Jose Ordaz, who raised their family here.
She went to the local school, worked in the cannery during the war, cleaned homes and later went to work at the Pollyanna Bakery and finally retired from the Lucky’s store bakery in Morgan Hill.
She raised her own family in Gilroy and gave them a wonderful sense of home and a love of place. She was able to travel throughout the world with her children and loved the sense of adventure that came from experiencing the novel, like riding a camel in Morocco to tip-toeing in the tulips in Amsterdam to enjoying train travels in Spain to sampling all the desserts in Paris.
She was many things but foremost she was known for her cooking and baking. Her bunuelos – in particular, will be missed. God bless her and keep her. Rest in peace Anna.
