A possible Central Coast Section berth is slowly slipping away for the San Benito High girls golf team. The Balers placed third at the final Tri-County Athletic League five-team match of the season Tuesday at Twin Creeks GC in Salinas. The Balers shot a 170, the same exact score they shot at Twin Creeks last Thursday.

Gilroy won with a 160, followed by a 162 from Salinas.

Hillary Williams headed the Balers with a 40 on the par-31 course. Johni Kiesewetter had one of her better rounds this season with a 42. Corryn Pacheco and Jenny Maheu each shot a 44 to finalize the Baler scoring. Rahelle Barrientos shot a 48, while Ashly Cullumber carded a 49.

Only the top two teams in the league are guaranteed a CCS berth.

“I figure we’re in third or fourth,” said Baler head coach Mark Tinder. “I’ll know Thursday where we are exactly. We’re losing strokes on our short game. Short game. Short game. Short game. That’s what we’ll be practicing on this week.”

The Balers are at RLS at Spyglass Country Club next Tuesday when they take on the T-CAL South schools in head-to-head competition. The next home match for the Balers will be on Oct. 2 vs. Notre Dame at Ridgemark GC.
