Hollister High boys volleyball coach Henke Mao was disappointed in his club’s 6-15, 10-15, 4-15 loss at Gilroy Wednesday night.

“We didn’t put up a fight,” said Mao. “We didn’t hit the ball well at all.”

The Balers, 2-7 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 9-13 overall, had a negative hitting average in game two.

“Our defense still isn’t disciplined,” said Mao. “Edward Kauffman’s not back there anymore. We’re inexperienced back there.”

Mao, though, credited Peter Prak for playing well in the back row.

The Balers are off until April 25 when they entertain Seaside.

“We should be able to beat Seaside,” said Mao. “We can’t beat ourselves by mind games and we have to pass the ball better. Then we can win.”

The Balers junior varsity golfers were edged by Gilroy 192-197 at Gilroy Golf Course Wednesday.

Curt Rhodes, a junior, was medalist with a 43 on the par-35 nine hole layout.

Next for the Balers was Chase Graves with a 48, followed by Wes Nelson (52), Chris Shackleton (54) and Sam Brigantino (62).

The Baler varsity is at the Monterey Bay Invitational this Tuesday at Rancho Canada East with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.
