A celebration of Barbara’s life will take place on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at 11:00 A.M., at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Morgan Hill. This will be followed by a graveside internment for family members.
Barbara Aasboe (nee Valenzuela) passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, in Medford, OR, where she resided in her final years. Barbara was born in Santa Barbara, CA and lived in Morgan Hill, CA for 44 years, until 2011.
In death, Barbara is reunited with her husband, Alphin “Swede” Aasboe, her daughter, Barbara Jean Neill, her son-in-law, Vincent Faso, and her long-time companion, Norman Kurtz. She is survived by daughter, Loretta Faso, son, George Huskey and his wife, Lynn, daughter, Brenda Cuha and her husband, John, son-in-law, David Neill, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
In 1946, Barbara married George Huskey in Santa Barbara. In the early 1950’s, they moved to San Jose where they brought up their four children.
Barbara then enjoyed a 17-year marriage to “Swede,” who passed away in 1985. Blessed again, she met Norman Kurtz and they shared more than 20 amazing years together until his passing in 2010.
Barbara shined brightly throughout her lifetime, but never more so than during her years with Norm.
Friends and family will remember Barbara for her “lazy enchiladas” and guisados, sharing drinks and laughs with friends and family at the M & H Tavern, and her love of fashion clothing, shoes, and handbags. Barbara never met a stranger, and often introduced family to fellow airline travelers at the end of her flights.
She also routinely hosted family, friends, and new acquaintances at her charmingly funky home and in the “Mule Barn” out back. She was a good friend to many, and her family was blessed by her ability to bring so many others into her orbit, thereby sharing in their love, laughter, and lives.
