After a brave battle with Cancer, Barbara Joy Walkup Kuhl died on June 3, 2010.

Barbara was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. In 1982, Barbara and her husband Richard Kuhl purchased the Mariposa House restaurant in San Juan Bautista. Over 20 years of owning the restaurant, Barbara shared her life with people through her cooking and her incredible capacity for empathy. She also help open and manage the Vault restaurant and bar in Hollister.

She was instrumental in the creation of the San Benito AIDS foundation and was an active fund raiser through the different benefit events from 1992-2002.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Robinson Thomas (Don), Denise Robinson Schroder (Doug), and Danielle Walkup Wolfe (Dan). She is survived by her three grandchildren, Devin Turnbull, Kylie Turnbull and Matthew Clare. Barbara is also survived by her sister Leona Alonso (Manuel).

Per Barbara’s wishes, the family will celebrate Barbara’s life with a party. Please join us from Saturday, June 26, 2:00-7:00 P.M. for an open house at her home, 1128 Buena Vista in Pacific Grove.
