The San Benito baseball team beat Christopher 7-3 in the second game of the Wilcox tournament on Wednesday for the Balers’ first win of the season.

The Balers struck for two runs in the first inning after lead-off hitter Ryan Jacob was hit by a pitch. After stealing second, Jacob was knocked in by a single for Josh George.

George finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Marcus Sabatte added a double and a RBI in the sixth to extend the San Benito lead. Sabatte’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Balers in the game.

“We played much better,” manager Billy Aviles said. “We got some guys on base and we were able to drive them in and score.”

Jack Cabral started the game for San Benito and limited Christopher to three hits and three runs.

“He threw strikes,” Aviles said. “He did a great job.”

San Benito continues the Wilcox tournament on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Washington Park in San Clara. The Balers will face the winner of Santa Cruz and Archbishop Mitty.
