Hollister resident Benjamin Harper died Thursday morning at the age of 77.

Harper died in his home after a six-month illness. He was born in Pacific Grove and moved to San Benito County in 1976. He is a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Harper was a Monterey fisherman for 25 years and a supervisor at the Hollister Airport for 20 years. He was a member of the Monterey Moose Lodge.

Surviving Harper is his wife Edna A. Harper of Hollister, brother James Harper of Pleasanton, Calif., stepdaughter Karen Gullo of Discorvery Bay, Calif. and stepson Scott Flint of Hollister.

A family memorial service is planned. Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Grunnagle-Amernt-Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory.

Contributions are preferred to the Hospice of the Central Coast.
