SALINAS

Authorities say the badly beaten body of a 28-year-old woman has been found on a road in Salinas.

Monterey County sheriff’s deputies discovered the woman’s body on Zabala Road around 4:15 a.m. Thursday. She had suffered serious blunt trauma to her head and face.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Terry Kaiser says investigators have identified the woman, who was clothed, through fingerprints. Her name has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.

Kaiser says the woman had a police record but did not elaborate.

He says her injuries appeared to have been fatal, but a medical examination is necessary to pinpoint cause of death. An autopsy has not yet been scheduled.
