Bonnie Lee Velter -Mertz, 68, of Gilroy, CA passed away August 13, 2013, after a long and courageous fight with scleroderma and resulting complications.
Bonnie was born on September 4, 1944, in Harrisburg, PA to Conrad and Dorothy Velter, who have preceded her in death.
Bonnie, affectionately known as Gram, is survived by her three daughters, Lisa (Michael) Filice, Lorrie Mertz, Stephanie (Glenn) Thorne , eight grandchildren Katrina (Tony) Piccardo, Zachary and Jacob McGhee, Michael Filice IV, Jenna and Justin Thorne, Joshua and Brianna Mertz, and two great-granddaughters Rebecca and Jacquelyn Piccardo. Bonnie is also survived by her brothers in Pennsylvania, Donald and Kerry Velter.
Bonnie spent her childhood in Middletown, PA and graduated from Middletown Area High School in 1962. During her youth and teen years she was an avid and talented dancer and performer.
Upon having children of her own, her love of dance and theater continued as she became involved with Gilroy Community Theater as a board member and costume designer. Bonnie was an avid reader, amazing seamstress and bargain shopper.
Bonnie opened her home and her heart to all that knew her. She was a source of unconditional love and support to her family. She was beautiful, loving, compassionate and honest. Her giving and gentleness only paled in comparison to her strength.
Her life was truly a miracle and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
