Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero provided an injury update Wednesday afternoon via his Twitter account.

“Although my injury is not career ending, I will still have to undergo an arthroscopic surgery and will be out for a few months,” the five-time world champion wrote.

Guerrero, who was to challenge for the WBA interim super lightweight belt against Marcos Maidana on Saturday as the main event for HBO’s Boxing After Dark, pulled out last Thursday after injuring his left shoulder while sparring.

Tests results taken earlier this week revealed a partially torn rotator cuff. Guerrero, a southpaw, has been receiving consultation from Dr. Michael Dillingham, who has lent his services to the San Francisco 49ers.

“Dr. Dillingham who’s one of the best surgeons said we’ll know more after my surgery next Tuesday in regards to how long I’ll be out,” Guerrero wrote.

“I’m praying everything goes well. God bless and thanks everyone for the support.”
