The Hollister man accused of burglarizing a San Benito Street home in June has accepted a deal and pleaded no contest to felony burglary and another misdemeanor for resisting arrest, according to court records.
Police arrested Carlos Ureno, 33, on June 11 after a burglary in the 900 block of San Benito Street.
Prosecutors initially charged him with the two charges to which he pleaded no contest July 22, along with a misdemeanor count alleging possession of burglary tools. The district attorney’s office agreed to dismiss the possession charge, according to court records.
Ureno, represented by public defender Greg LaForge, is scheduled for sentencing at 9 a.m. Sept. 1 before Judge Steven Sanders in courtroom 101. The penalty for burglary is two, four or six years in state prison, according to the penal code.
Ureno’s case stems from the June 11 incident. At about 10 p.m., a woman walking in the 900 block of San Benito Street heard glass breaking and she noticed a man entering a home through a window, according to police.
Hollister police officers, with the assistance of San Benito County Sheriff’s Office deputies, surrounded the house. Police approached the home and ordered the man to come out. The suspect jumped through a window, ran through several back yards and out onto East Street, where police caught him. Ureno suffered an injury to his shoulder when he jumped out of the window and was treated at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.
