Calfire determined the cause of Saturday’s grass fire east of Fairview Road to be the firing of bullets at rocks.

Calfire had the second blaze near Hollister to contend with Saturday afternoon, with the vegetation fire at Rosa Morada Rd and Jarvis Lane, east of Fairview Road, according to Calfire.

The fire started around 3 p.m. Saturday and was fully contained within about five hours, said Calfire spokesman Jonathan Pangburn. Calfire reported that the fire engulfed 73 acres.

He said investigators determined the cause to be people shooting rocks with metal-tipped bullets, but did not have more details.

There were no structures damaged or injuries. The area is sparsely populated ranchland, he noted.
