Carman H. Blakeway died Aug. 31, in Auburn, Calif. He was 82.

Blakeway was a founding partner of Gabilan Blacksmith and welding, a founding member of Sunnyslope Water District Board of Directors, a member of San Benito County Masonic Lodge 221 and a lifetime member of the VFW.

A veteran of World War II, Blakeway served in the “Sea Bees” Naval Construction Battalion, participating in the Philippine Liberation, North African Campaign and in the D-Day invasion of Europe.

He was preceded in death by his brother Marvin Blakeway of Sacramento and sister Nita Birdseye of Medford, Ore.

He is survived by his wife Beverely Blakeway of Auburn; sons Roger Blakeway of Hollister, and Dennis Blakeway of Citrus Heights; and daughter Jeanette Somavia of Hollister.
