Charlie passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the age of 60 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Sandy, daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Dave Lowi and their 2 children Carly and Laine, his 2 brothers Bill McDow and Devlin Jones and their families, and a large company of extended family and friends.

Born in Barstow, California, Charlie attended schools in Santa Cruz and San Jose, and made his home in Hollister. He met Sandy in high school; they married shortly after, and spent 38 wonderful years together as companions and best friends. Charlie worked for the City of Santa Clara Fire Department for almost 30 years. There, he developed many long lasting and close friendships that he cherished. During his career he advanced from fire fighter to Engineer and eventually to Captain. He retired from the department in 2005.

Charlie was a great athlete and enjoyed many sports including surfing, snow skiing, biking, backpacking, swimming and riding cutting horses. He especially loved the Fire Fighters Olympics where he earned many medals in multiple events.

He was a kind and loving husband, father, Papa, brother and friend and will be truly missed by all who had the good fortune to have known him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating his life on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Santa Cruz Memorial Oakwood Chapel at 3301 Paul Sweet Road in Santa Cruz.
