Former Congressman Charles S. Gubser, of Gilroy passed away peacefully at age 95 in Fresno, CA. Gubser was born in Gilroy, CA to Charles H. and Ella Gubser. He attended local schools, graduated from San Jose State Junior College in 1934 and UC Berkeley in 1937 earning a degree in Economics. He continued on with two years of post-graduate work, taught at Gilroy HS for four years and also began farming following the death of his father in 1940. He was elected to the Calif. State Legislature in 1951, serving 1 term. He was then elected to the US House of Representatives as a Republican in 1953, re-elected for 10 more terms, serving a total of 22 years. He retired to Colorado in 1974. In 2005, he moved to Fresno to be closer to his family.

Gubser is survived by his daughter Marcia Camino (Ray) of Shaver Lake, CA; two grandchildren: Tom Camino (Lynn)of Fort Wayne, IN and Carrie Bailey (Chris) of Mesa, AZ; and five great- grandchildren: Sarah and Jodi Camino and Lauren, Emily, and Alyssa Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Joan, and his second wife of 30 years, Jean; grandson Ken Camino and great-granddaughter Stephanie Camino.
