Cheryl “Cheri” Gray went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2009 at the age of 66. She was the daughter of the late Carl “Sully” and Henrietta “Nene” Schulz. A native of Hollister, she graduated from Union School and Hollister High School in San Benito County, where she also worked as a beautician for many years. Cheri later resumed her education, obtaining a Masters Degree in Counseling from Saint Mary’s College. She worked as Director of Admissions and Records at Gavilan Community College and Hartnell Community College for a total of over 30 years. She is also well known through her community involvement with the Catholic Church, Pet Friends, the SPCA, and Creative Memories.

In addition to her parents, Cheri was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Ethel Schulz, and Theophile and Anna Fonquernie; uncles Sheldon Schulz and George Fonquernie; and cousins Arlette Tavares, Leon Latapie, Doug Skow, and Margie Arzie, and Betty Nyland. She is survived by husband James Gray of Hollister, sisters Jan Schulz of Modesto and Suzanne Damm of Hollister, and the lights of her life, niece Kristi Sanders and great-nephew Kyle Sanders of Gilroy. She is also survived by cousins Nanette Grant, Dorothy Sabbatini, and Peter Nyland, and by many third cousins. She will be missed greatly by her beloved dog Killer and many human friends.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church on Fairview Road in Hollister.
