The El Camino Club members took their own time to clean the highway in San Benito County.

The El Camino Club based in Gilroy that consists of California Highway Patrol officers and supervisors assigned to the Hollister-Gilroy office recently picked up trash on the shoulders of Airline Highway.

The club volunteers picked up garbage Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. between Ridgemark and Enterprise Road and filled nine “Adopt-a-Highway” trash bags.

The club has plans to do two more trash pick-up days in the area and will be planting several trees in Gilroy, according to the El Camino Club’s announcement.

One of the organizational goals is to give back to the communities that they serve, according to the announcement.
