J.J. Melo, top left, is one of several Balers in on the tackle of a Salinas player in last Friday's title-clinching victory.

Balers lineman J.J. Melo was named the MBL Gabilan Division Defensive MVP, capping a year that saw the senior establish the school’s all-time record for career sacks, with 18.
Melo headlined a list of San Benito players who made the all-league teams, including Tristian Medina, Will Gularte, Tyler Biersdorff, Austin Cascio, Andrew Sotelo and Jose Perez, all of whom made the first team.
Second-team honors went to Bryan Noble, Justice Felice and Hunter Nye, and the sportsmanship award went to Manny Zuniga.
