San Benito County authorities have released the identity of a Hollister man suspected of shooting his estranged girlfriend before killing himself July 11 at her Diablo Drive apartment.

Authorities have identified the 51-year-old man as Enrique Rosales Alvarez, said Lt. Roy Iler of the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office, which acts as the coroner here.

The Hollister Police Department is investigating the case and a spokesman has said all indications point to a murder-suicide.

Investigators allege that shortly after 9 p.m. that Sunday night, Alvarez shot and killed Dora Gutierrez, 42, at the apartment complex in the 1400 block of Diablo Drive where the couple had lived for about two years. Authorities believe the two recently had become separated.

They allege Alvarez also shot Gutierrez’s daughter, in the abdomen area, but she survived after treatment at a Bay Area hospital. That woman’s 5-year-old daughter also was at the home during the shootings, but did not get injured.
