A vegetation fire today – caused by sparks from a vehicle – has been contained after spreading to about 33 acres along Highway 25 south of Paicines, according to Calfire.

The fire was first reported at about 1 p.m. When Calfire arrived, about 25 acres had been consumed and it had been moving toward brush patches and ranch homes near the highway, about 20 miles south of Hollister, according to a statement. Wind gusts of about 15 mph pushed the blaze up a canyon near the San Benito River.

Calfire, though, prevented the fire from spreading much farther and it was contained by 2:19 p.m.

The state agency noted how it was accidental and caused when faulty shocks threw sparks from the highway. There were no injuries, according to Calfire.
