Dorothy Roxanne Hollister Hood passed away May 14, 2015 in Hollister, CA.
Roxanne was born July 1, 1951, in Phoenix, AZ to the late Richard Davis Hollister III and Dorothy Grace Bean Hollister. Her family later moved to Southern California.
Roxanne graduated from El Modena High School in Orange, and attended Fullerton Junior College. She met Ronald Richard Hood while she was a student there and their eternal love began. They were married and sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple for time and all eternity and then moved to Connecticut as part of their honeymoon.
In later years, she earned both Bachelor (Behavioral Science) and Master’s degrees (Counseling) from San Jose State University.
Roxanne’s love for animals was inescapable. In addition to raising Appaloosa horses, Welsh ponies, dogs, and cats, she was actively involved in horse show management and showing her own horses.
Filling a tender void in her own family, Roxanne reached out to the children in others’ families (siblings, friends, and neighbors) visiting with them and making them smile, supporting their hobbies, education, church missions and careers, corresponding with them, and generally doting on them and spoiling them with love and attention.
Roxanne had a nurturing mother’s heart. Her nurturing words and gestures of love blessed nieces, nephews, godchildren and more. She loved and cherished them as her own. They will carry her love with them always.
Roxanne touched the hearts and lives of many friends, associates, family members and “surrogate children”. She will be sorely missed, but always and forever in our hearts.
Roxanne was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings in the Young Women’s and children’s programs in the wards she attended in Manchester, Connecticut; Pleasanton, California; and Hollister. She had a deep love for Family History and temple service. Roxanne enjoyed sharing Family History research with her sister Christine.
She was active in numerous Heritage Societies where she held various positions of leadership. For the past two years, she was serving as Regent for the Stockton Chapter of Daughters of the American Colonists.
Over the course of her career, Roxanne had the opportunity to work as a Contracts Administrator at United Technologies, the same company that employed her husband. She also worked as a Contracts Administrator and Senior Purchasing Agent at San Jose State University, from where she retired. Roxanne also was a Notary Public.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ronald Richard Hood; sisters, Dr. Christine Hollister (William McLimans) of Modesto, Deborah Hollister and Denise Hollister of Bakersfield, and Darlene (Eli) Shigley of Yucca Valley; and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
