The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office is awaiting the toxicology report in a suspected hit-and-run accident Dec. 5 that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old Hollister man.
The Hollister Police Department around two weeks ago handed over its investigation to the district attorney. The office received the report but now is waiting for toxicology results to decide on potential charges.
Police found Alberto Preciado dead in the middle of the road around 8 p.m. Dec. 5 in the 800 block of Fourth Street. He died of blunt-force trauma to the head, according to the coroner’s office.
After the crash, police arrived at the scene and found a man lying in the middle of the road. The man had a fatal injury to his head, police said. An hour after the incident, the driver called the police department and identified himself or herself as the one who hit the man with a vehicle, according to police, which recovered the vehicle.
A police spokesman has said “several” potential charges are possible.
The Free Lance does not name identities of involved parties until they are charged with a crime.
