Long-time Hollister resident
Long-time Hollister resident David H. Hyman died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at Hazel Hawkins Northside Convalescent Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 66.

Mr. Hyman was born in Gilroy and lived all his life in San Benito County. He graduated from San Benito High School and attended Menlo College and college in Southern California, and served in the U.S. Navy in the 1950s.

He started in the retail clothing business working for his father, Abe Hyman, at the Wardrobe in Hollister. In 1968 he opened Senor David’s in Watsonville, then another Senor David’s in Gilroy in the early 1970s. In 1989 he bought the Hollister Western Store. He also worked for Hazel Hawkins Hospital as a fund-raiser from 1987-89.

Mr. Hyman was a member of the Hollister Elks Lodge No. 1436 BPOE, the Hollister Rotary Club, the San Benito Masonic Lodge, S.I.R.S. of Hollister, the Hollister Chamber of Commerce, the Hollister Downtown Business Association and Ridgemark Golf & Country Club. He was also an avid woodworker.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Hyman of Hollister; his children, Charles Hyman, Renee Kunz and Pamela Ahlin, all of Hollister, Robert Prater of Salinas, Sheilah Cox of Southern California and Susan Rosenthal of Tucson, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Mabel Hyman.

Visitation will be today until 7 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home under the auspices of the Hollister Elks Lodge and the Rev. John Amelio of the Church of Glad Tidings in San Juan Bautista. Burial and graveside services will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the Parkinson’s Institute in Sunnyvale or Solutions of Hollister, in care of the funeral home.
