Dear Editor:

I felt very disgusted today when I read the Free Lance about Supervisor Kesler’s intent to convince the Board to dismiss her planning commissioner, Anthony Freitas. I can’t believe she will get enough support. No matter what I feel, this Board knows better than that. Anthony Freitas has done nothing wrong.

I attended a meeting that I believe was the second attempt to fire Mr. Freitas. This meeting drew a big audience. Everyone spoke against the ordinance. Mr. Freitas saw all of the opposition and took the time to speak. He said “I am here to work for the people. With no one in favor, I can’t support this ordinance.” If you want to be satisfied and fair you have to fight all the commissioners because the others didn’t approve it either.

Any politician in this case was stupid to think another way. Trying to fire Mr. Freitas is an old age vendetta. Being a supervisor is addictive, the older you get, it seems it’s harder to let go. Because of things like this I have always been in favor of term limits. So you know when your time expires you would be ready without giving the others a bad time.

You are not elected to be the owner; you are elected to work for the owners. The owners are the taxpayers. I like the system. We citizens can elect you or disapprove you. Or if your job performance is dysfunctional we can recall you. I can’t believe this was accepted by the administration. No one can prove Freitas has done anything wrong.

I feel if Kesler succeeds she will give Freitas a much better chance to be elected. People always respond to this kind of revenge.

At my age, I don’t know what makes me want to be involved in this situation. What I know is I will never be afraid to stand for the truth. If I know I am dying tomorrow that will not stop me from standing for what is right today.

Today I was eating an apple and wondering who planted the tree where this apple grew. I feel you have an obligation to plant for others. As I said before, people lean more towards revenge than peace, unfortunately. When you start to do things against the majority that elected you, recall is what you deserve. I hope for the Board’s credibility that they ignore this request and go against this unfair idea.

God bless San Benito County and bring us more peace in the future.

This is only my opinion.

Hollister
