Long time Gilroy resident, Donald C. Adamson, passed away at the age of 79, on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2009 at his home in Blair, NE after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Don spent many years in California but had called Nebraska home since 1996.
Don was born in Newman Grove, NE on a farm. He served in the Air Force, graduated from San Jose State University and was a business, typing and accounting teacher at Gilroy High School and Gavilan College from 1961 to 1988. In 1951, he married Neva Olson and had 3 children, Nancy (Juan Ceja) Taylor, Thane (Brenda) Adamson and Kari (Keith) Miles. He is survived by all of these family members as well as 5 grandchildren.
On March 25th, when Don was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he agreed to give research donations of pancreatic tissue for study at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He will be remembered for this kind of unselfish service to others, for his outgoing nature and sense of humor, for a way with words both written and spoken and for his love of family and love of the land. His passing on Earth Day was very appropriate as he loved everything in nature and had planted thousands of trees, bushes and flowers during his lifetime.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
