Hollister resident Donald D. Marcus died Friday, Sept. 12, at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. He was 79.

Marcus worked for the San Benito County Road Depart-ment for 28 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Church, Knights of Columbus and S.I.R.S. He was an active usher for both churches for more than 50 years.

After his retirement in 1986, Marcus helped out on the family ranch fixing fences, feeding cattle and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lucille Marcus and brother Robert Marcus.

He is survived by his wife Juanita Marcus of Hollister; son Donnie (Kristy) Marcus of Hollister; daughter Janice (Mark) Skow of Hollister; grandchildren Richard Marcus of Ketchum, Idaho, Dana Marcus, Cody and Katie Skow, Jarrod Skow and Trace Skow, all of Hollister; brother Charles Marcus of Hollister, sister Dorothy Bardin of Salinas and sister-in-law Carolina Marcus of Hollister. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home, followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. to which friends are invited.

Family and friends will leave the funeral home chapel Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. to go to Sacred Heart Church for a mass at 10 a.m.

Internment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery.

Donations may be sent to San Benito Hospice or Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation, c/o Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home.
